Maisha

Birthday: May 28, 2000

Parents: Matata and P-Suke (1979-2006)

Lived Where: Language Research Center, 2000-2005; Great Ape Trust, 2005-present

Favorite Food: Grapes

Favorite Toy: Trash bags

Favorite Game: Chase

Favorite Activities: Maisha is more concerned with “stirring the pot” than trying to assert his dominance. The second youngest of Great Ape Trust’s resident bonobos, he has grown up quickly. Those who know him say he is very “power hungry” and is working to establish his place in the group. He loves spending time with Panbanisha.

What makes Maisha unique?

He interacts with caretakers in a way that is uniquely Maisha. He does a full-body wiggle or jiggle by shrugging and shaking his shoulders.
